The illusion of progress

Social media is addictive.

You post something, the likes start coming in, impressions go up, maybe you gain a few followers. It feels like progress. And in a way, it is - attention matters.

But attention alone doesn’t pay your bills.

As builders, there’s only one signal that truly matters if we want to keep going: revenue.

Most of us post a lot - we call it building in public. We tweet, write threads, and even post videos on YouTube. Every now and then, Stripe pings and we make a sale. That moment feels great… and then comes the confusion.

What actually caused that sale? 🤔

Was it the tweet from two days ago? The video from last week? Or just the link in the bio?

Most of the time, we don’t know. So we default to the easiest signals available: impressions, likes, and comments - even though they might have nothing to do with revenue.

Guessing is expensive

Here’s a simple scenario.

You post five times in a week. One of those posts leads to a sale. Stripe notifies you, but you have no idea which post did it. So next week, you just post more.

More content.
More guessing.
More time spent.

Instead of doubling down on what actually makes you money.

That’s a problem.

Time is limited. Energy is limited. Posting more isn’t the same as growing your business. Knowing what converts to revenue lets you stop wasting time on content that doesn’t sell, focus on what works, and build a healthier business instead of chasing vanity metrics.

What we shipped (and why)

Last week, Andrew and I spent most of our time building and launching a new product called SocialRevenue.io.

We shipped fast (this is part of our mantra), and did a soft launch. Seeing it live and watching the first people sign up was genuinely exciting, because this product came directly from solving this problem for ourselves.

The idea is simple: link your social accounts, add your website and Stripe, use custom links, and then you can clearly see which posts bring in actual revenue. Not likes. Not impressions. But real money. 💰

SocialRevenue Dashboard

It’s still early, but the product is live and working, and we’re looking for early users.

If you’re a builder selling a SaaS or a creator selling a digital product and you want to stop guessing what content works, you can sign up and try SocialRevenue for free. We’d love your feedback - this is the stage where shaping the product matters most.

This is part of my $1M journey: build fast, ship, learn, and improve until something works, and then double down.

See you in the next one! 👋
